FAQ - THE PRODUCTS

How do you use the kits, is there instructions?

Yes we have our very own YouTube channel “CVR POV” with full video tutorials and online instructions on our webpage www.paintgear.co.uk .

Is there a link to the YouTube channel?

CVR POV can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/@cvrpov

Is the paint the same in the Rub n Buff kit as the Full Touch Up Kit?

Yes, the paint is fundamentally the same in both of those kits, as is all the paint that we supply. Our paint is solvent based and should be only used with solvent based products. All of our paint is pre mixed with our Gloss Enhancer Additive, apart from the Full Touch Up Kit paint which has the Gloss Enhancer provided separately within the kit contents.

What is the Gloss Enhancer Additive?

The Gloss Enhancer Additive is our very own unique product which can be added to our Solvent Paint System. The additive instantly adds gloss to the mixture which remains once the paint has dried out and cured. The additive also thickens the paint, adding bulk and volume to the touch up area, this allows the product to be layered up to “fill” the damage area much better than base paint alone. Finally, once the paint and additive has fully cured, a durable hard touch up area has now formed which can withstand daily use and repeated washing. If desired, this area can now be polished or even sanded and polished to “level” the repair.

What does the Reducer and Gloss Enhancer do?

The Reducer solution can be used to clean the brushes after use. It is also included within certain touch up kit options as a means of thinning down any mixed-up paint solutions for more accurate touch-ins. In contrary to the reducer thinning the paint mixtures, the gloss enhancer adds bulk and volume to the mix. The two can be used in combination to alter the consistency of the paint.

Do I need to use a “cutting compound” or a “polish” for the Rub n Buff Method?

To successfully remove wet sanding marks, or to remove the excess paint when using the Rub n Buff method, generally a cutting compound or paste is needed. Alternatively, a good cutting polish with a heavy amount of cut is required.

Are the kits re-usable?

The Full Touch Up kit and the Ultimate Touch Up kit are fully re-usable. The brushes can be cleaned with the reducer solution contained within the pack. The paints & other components will store once re-sealed in their pots. The paint residue on equipment and brushes can be removed/cleaned with any good solvent based automotive thinners.

I don’t know which Alloy Wheel Repair Kit I should buy?

There are several factors to consider when deciding which wheel kit to purchase. Firstly, we offer several options to suit what tool/s you have at your disposal. Some kits are suited to an Orbital or rotary machine and include a 150mm backing plate with an M14 thread. Other kits come with a 77mm backing plate and drill adaptor spindle, which is suited to a cordless drill setup.
